Will the old Volkswagen Amarok be able to overtake the new generation of Ford Ranger? 1

A video has appeared on YouTube showing a drag racing-style race between the first generation Volkswagen Amarok and a brand new Ford Ranger. Both cars are equipped with V6 diesel engines.

The new generation of the German VW Amarok pickup truck was created as a result of cooperation between Ford and Volkswagen. Those who have been waiting for the new Amarok should already know that VW has decided to use Ford’s Power Stroke diesel engine and a 10-speed gearbox for its medium-sized truck. Thus, this engine will replace the previous TDI V6, which worked with an 8-speed torque converter, which develops more power than a similar engine from Ford.

“To illustrate the difference between VW’s own TDI V6 and the Ford Power Stroke V6 diesel engine (and subsequently the new VW Amarok), CarExpert team members organized drag racing between the old Amarok and the new Ford Ranger V6.”

It should be noted that the 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine of the old Amarok produced 255 horsepower and 580 Nm of torque. It had an overcharging feature that allowed the driver to access 268 hp, which is not available in the Ranger.

Meanwhile, the new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 installed in the Ranger develops slightly less power — 247 hp, but more torque — 600 Nm. There could be fierce competition between the old VW and the new Ranger, but the Ford pickup has a disadvantage in terms of weight.

Indeed, the old Amarok was faster than the Ranger in the sprint, even with a passenger who was added to the German pickup. It is faster in most cases, especially when sprinting up to 100 km/h.
