Work on a large—scale study has been completed – which car was the most popular in the world last year. Analysts from JATO Dynamics analyzed data on 106 markets on five continents. This is 99% of the total sales in the world.
The most popular car in the world was the Toyota RAV4 crossover. In total, more than 1.13 million cars of this model were sold, which is 6% more than in 2020. Toyota Corolla is in the second position, and Honda CR-V closes the top three. Then there are the Nissan Sentra, Toyota Camry, Honda HR—V, Ford F—150, Toyota Hilux, Tesla Model 3, and then the Honda Accord.
Among subcompact crossovers, the Honda HR-V was the leader. Volkswagen T-Cross is in the second position, later Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Volkswagen T-Roc took their rightful places.
The Toyota Highlander is the most popular mid-size crossover that is catching up with the Tesla Model Y. BMW X3 is in the third position, followed by Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes—Benz GLC, Audi Q5, and Hyundai Santa Fe.
The most popular subcompact was the Chinese Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Among the premium cars, the BMW 3-series sedan became the leader. The line of pickups was headed by the Ford F-150.
