Toyota has turned Corolla into a commercial van. This unusual modification is an example of the conversion of the Corolla Touring Sports wagon, which was made by British Toyota GB. The novelty should convince the local business not to overpay for “heels”; arguments in favor of the Corolla Commercial – economical and environmentally friendly hybrid power plant, extended warranty, and relatively affordable price (from £26.5 thousand).
After the retirement of the Vauxhall Astra Van, the British business has no light vans of comparable size – there are either compact models a la Yaris or crossovers like the Dacia Duster. Now the situation will change.
Corolla Commercial’s two-seater van is able to carry 425-kilograms of cargo, tow a 750-kilogram trailer, and useful trunk volume increased to 1326 liters. Rear seats, windows, and window lifters have been removed, and there is a steel partition with a grid on top between the interior and the body.
Under the hood, is a hybrid 120 hp (142 Nm) system based on a 1.8 gasoline atmospheric engine. Fuel consumption in the mixed WLTP cycle is only 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers, and the autonomy of a fully fueled van is more than 1,000 kilometers.
The list of basic options includes LED headlights, a multimedia system with a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and a Toyota Safety Sense active safety system. The only simplification is the stamped wheels.
Importantly, the commercial vehicle is covered by the revolutionary Toyota Relax warranty program, which means the Corolla Commercial van can retain a warranty of up to ten years or 161,000 kilometers with annual service at dealers. The novelty’s price is slightly lower than that of the station wagon – from £26,500.
