About 1.7 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles are currently under the scrutiny of the NHTSA due to brake line problems.
NHTSA investigations are not uncommon and usually result from consumer complaints. And so it became with a new large-scale check.
Fortunately for Lincoln and Ford owners, the potential brake issues seem to affect only two models released from 2013 to 2018: the Ford Fusion and the Lincoln MKZ. Over time, NHTSA collected 50 different complaints about brake line failures related to these two models.
NHTSA reports that many complaints claim that “brake hoses rupture, brake fluid leaks, and this happens almost without warning.” In this case, the braking performance is sharply reduced, which is a serious safety threat.
“Depending on the results of the investigation, the supervisory authority may eventually send Ford a request to recall the problematic cars.”
