The retirement of Mondeo was not a surprise: Ford announced it back in March 2021. Now it is a fait accompli: the production of Ford Mondeo cars at the Spanish plant of the company was stopped in the last days of March. Alas, the press service did not cover this event, but one of the employees of the company published photos of the last Mondeo released on social networks. The final was a gray station wagon, which left the factory on April 4.

Ford Mondeo is just a few months short of its 30th anniversary: the first-generation car was presented in November 1992. For all this time the European Mondeo has changed four generations. The outgoing model with the factory code CD391 debuted in 2012 and almost became a global model: cars were also produced in the U.S., Russia, and China. However, the American version under the name Ford Fusion was withdrawn from production back in 2020, and now the European model is history. It will not have a direct successor. Now the Mondeo remains only in China: back in January, a new fifth-generation sedan was introduced there.

As for the Ford plant in Valencia, Spain, the rejection of the Mondeo is just the beginning of reducing the production program. Soon it will stop producing Ford Galaxy minivan and Ford Transit/Tourneo Connect, and also the all-terrain Ford S-Max won’t have much time left. All three will be replaced by the new Connect, based on the Volkswagen Caddy, and these cars will be produced in Poland. Therefore, only the crossovers Ford Kuga will remain on the Spanish assembly line.
