
Brand Hongqi (part of the concern FAW) is conducting road tests of the new generation sedan H5. The first spy shots of the car were published edition CarNewsChina.
The public premiere of the new midsize sedan is expected in April 2022 at the International Motor Show in Beijing. The British specialist Giles Taylor, who was previously responsible for the design of Rolls-Royce cars, worked on the appearance of the model. Judging by the images, the sedan will get typical for new cars Hongqi appearance with a massive chrome grille and narrow LED headlights.

The current Hongqi H5 is based on the Mazda6 third-generation platform, which used to be produced in China by joint venture FAW-Mazda. However, according to CarNewsChina the new H5, as well as other modern cars in Hongqi, will be created on a platform of its own design.

The engine lineup will include modernized gasoline “turbo-four” with a working volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters. The current model they develop 169 and 178 hp respectively, but the output of motors for the next generation sedan may be increased.

The name Hongqi in Chinese means “The Red Banner”. Brand, part of concern FAW, previously produced cars exclusively for China’s political elite, but recently began producing “civilian” cars for free sale. In addition, Hongqi has plans to enter the global market.
