Team 2023 lineups: Contracts and rumors 1

We’ve compiled up-to-date information on drivers’ contracts and all sorts of rumors about team lineups for the 2023 season (the current version of the piece is from August 1…).

Red Bull Racing

Red Bull Racing’s lineup for 2023 is not in doubt. Max Verstappen will continue to speak for the team from Milton Keynes until the end of 2028, his partner Sergio Perez in May extended the contract until the end of 2024.

Back in 2019, Ferrari extended the contract with Charles Leclair for five years – the Monegasque will continue to play for the Scuderia. The contract of Carlos Sainz with the Italian team expired at the end of 2022, but in April the agreement with the Spaniard was extended for two more years. The composition of the Ferrari in the next year will not change.

Last season Mercedes officially renewed the contract with Lewis Hamilton for two years. Thus, the seven-time world champion will continue to act for the team from Brackley in 2023.

The contract with George Russell was originally calculated only for 2022, but the results of the young racer in the current season are satisfied with the Mercedes administration. The message on the continuation of cooperation with Russell can be expected in the autumn.

Technically, both McLaren drivers have contracts for 2023. Back at the beginning of the year, the team extended the contract with Lando Norris until the end of 2025.

Daniel Riccardo also has a valid agreement with McLaren for the next season, but unimpressive results of the Australian in the first half of the season have led to the fact that the paddock began to actively discuss possible candidates for the replacement. Among the candidates called Oscar Piastri, Alex Elbon, and Colton Herta.

Tired of rumors, Daniel Riccardo made a statement, saying that he has no intention to leave Formula 1 and will continue to drive for McLaren in 2023.

Esteban Ocon has a contract with the team until the end of 2024. The French racer squeezes the maximum out of the car and shows stable results – we will see Ocon behind the wheel of an Alpine in 2023.

His partner for sure will be a fast and promising Oscar Piastri, whom the leadership has promised to find a place behind the wheel in 2023.

Alfa Romeo

In 2021-m Valtteri Bottas signed a multi-year contract with Alfa Romeo. The team did not disclose the term of the agreement, but it is obvious that the Finn will continue to perform in the next season.

The contract with Guangyu Zhou was signed only for the current season. The Chinese racer showed himself quite well in the first half of the year but waiting for the announcement of the name of his partner Bottas not worth it. In the Alfa Romeo will not make statements before the home stage at Monza. And although Zhou has a good chance to get a contract, given the return of Formula 1 in China next year, the team can go with Ferrari protege Mick Schumacher.

Kevin Magnussen made a surprise return to Formula 1 before the start of the season, replacing Nikita Mazepin. The Danish racer has lived up to expectations, of the 34 points earned by the middle of the season Kevin brought Haas more than half – 22. There is no doubt that the team will offer the driver a contract for 2023.

The results of Mike Schumacher at the beginning of the season did not please the driver, his fans, and the leadership of the team. But at Silverstone Mick scored the first points, and at the next stage in Austria, he secured the result. If the German will continue to progress, he will stay in Haas or even get a proposal from Alfa Romeo.

Among the possible candidates for the replacement mentioned Oscar Piastri and reserve racer Haas Pietro Fittipaldi.

Pierre Gasly had hoped to continue his career at Red Bull Racing in 2023, but the team has made a bet on Sergio Perez. The French racer offered to renew the contract with the AlphaTauri for the next season, but for the lack of other options, Gasli agreed.

At the moment it is not known who will be his partner in 2023. The results of Yuki Tsunoda are not striking, and the clash with the partner at Silverstone did not add points in his favor. If Helmut Marco decides to put behind the wheel one of the participants of the youth program, the greatest chance is Liam Lawson.

Theoretically, a place at the wheel could be offered and Dennis Hauger, but there are doubts that the Norwegian racer is ready for the transition to Formula 1. Unclear prospects for young drivers leave the chances of Yuki Tsunode to extend his contract with AlphaTauri.

Aston Martin

Lance Stroll has a multi-year contract with his father’s team, Fernando Alonso will be his partner next year.

The contract of Alex Elbon with Williams expires at the end of the season. The team is satisfied with the work with the Thai racer and ready to offer him a new agreement. Highly likely that Alex will take it if there will be no alternatives.

The fate of Nicholas Latifi seems more uncertain. His father Canadian brings a solid budget for the team, but the results Latifi leave much to be desired. Nicholas himself admitted, that he must add if he wants to stay in Williams in 2023.

Among the candidates for the replacement call the champion of Formula E Nick de Vries.
