The Czech company is finalizing the development of a new experimental crossover Skoda Afriq, which will premiere in spring 2022.
Skoda continues to develop another experimental car, the creation of which takes part students of the Czech brand. The new project will be a compact crossover called Afriq, which is based on the model Kamiq.
At the moment the students of the technical school of Skoda make final revisions to the design of the car, which received a powertrain from all-wheel drive modification of the Octavia model. The next stage of development will be an active phase of tests of the running prototype. The public premiere of the ready-made car will be in the spring of 2022.

The project involves a group of 25 students from the academy in Mlada-Boleslav, it also involves specialists from the sports department of Skoda Motorsport. The project is overseen by the chief designer of the Czech automaker Oliver Stefani.
The name of the experimental crossover is a reference to the famous rally-marathon Dakar, which for a long time was held in Europe and Africa with the start and finish in Paris and Dakar (capital of Senegal). The letter “Q” at the end of the name suggests its belonging to the family of crossovers Skoda — similar to the models Kodiaq, Karoq, Kamiq, and Enyaq.
The Afriq crossover will be Skoda’s eighth experimental student-designed vehicle. Previously the Czechs have released, for example, a sports roadster based on the model Scala and a pickup truck on the platform of the flagship crossover Kodiaq.
