BMW has started sales of a simplified electric car i4. Pre-orders for the rear-drive i4 eDrive35 with a deformed electric motor and a smaller capacity battery are already being accepted in the U.S. market. Prices start from 51,4 thousand dollars, that is the economy concerning i4 eDrive40 will be 4,5 thousand dollars. In terms of consumer characteristics, the compromise is insignificant: the autonomy according to the WLTP cycle was reduced from 590 to 490 kilometers.
A year ago the BMW i4 debuted in two modifications eDrive40 and M50, and now the range has expanded due to the new version with the index “35”. The capacity of the traction battery is reduced from 80.7 to 66-kilowatt hours, and the output of the only electric motor in the rear axle drive is reduced from 340 to 286 horsepower (torque is reduced from 430 to 400 Nm).
Curiously, the American measurement method of acceleration time to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) has not changed and makes the same 5.8 seconds. There is still a loss by the European standard: a 0-100 jerk of lift back eDrive35 spends six seconds for start, conceding 0.3 seconds to modification eDrive40.
Otherwise, the “simplified” BMW i4 repeats the original model with the index “40” – there is the drive 8 multimedia system, the same fast charging capabilities, and the list of basic options is identical.
In other countries, the BMW i4 eDrive35 is also likely to appear.
