The American company Rivian, which along with the electric pickups R1T began producing electric SUVs R1S, announced an increase in the off-road capabilities of its models. In a new version of the software for the electric power, plant engineers added Soft Sand Mode, which allows you to move more confidently on such a difficult model of coverage as loose sand. The new model is the ninth available for Rivian electric vehicles.

The main feature of Soft Sand Mode was to soften the reaction of the power unit to the accelerator pedal to avoid burying when starting on the sand, as well as softer recuperation during braking, not allowing the car to sink into the loose surface.

Suspension settings are changed to better deal with ruts and potholes, as well as bumps due to wind-driven sand. Rivian stressed that the new mode should be used only when driving on sand – in areas with rare or fine sand or gravel recommended choosing the algorithms Off-Road Mode or All-Terrain Mode.

At the same time, the manufacturer states that even in Soft Sand Mode, the driver must be cautious and be careful when deciding the trajectory, so that the electric car has not fallen into the sand because of its high mass.
