Honda Racing Corporation is pleased to introduce its new rider – Joan Mir, the 2020 MotoGP champion, who won the title with Team Suzuki Ecstar and will compete for this team until the end of the season. Then, Suzuki will close its MotoGP program and say goodbye to the World Championship, probably forever. Both pilots of the team got shelter in the Honda group: Alex Rins signed a contract with HRC and LCR Honda, which was announced back in July, but there was no announcement about Joan’s fate for 2 months, although it was known in Barcelona that the parties had struck hands.
Joan Mir joined the Royal Class in 2019 after winning the Moto3 World Championship in 2017 and a short “internship” in Moto2 in 2018. On the second attempt at Team Suzuki Ecstar, Mir unexpectedly entered into competition with his partner Alex Rins for the MotoGP champion title, starting from the second half of September and almost until the final, Mir and Rins led the MotoGP general standings, as well as the team championship and the Manufacturers’ Cup. Only on the very last weekend was Suzuki’s chance to take the Triple Crown lost.
Joan Mir is 24 years old, he has 33 podiums in 24 Grand Prix.
