Toprak Razgatlioglu broke his winless streak by winning the race at Misano last year. And yesterday at Donington Park, the reigning WorldSBK World Champion won the first race, leading from the first corner until the very end! After a superb start from third place, the Yamaha rider grabbed the lead with more than 6 seconds to go at the finish. In fact, the gap could have been even bigger, but Razgatlioglu did his trademark trick before the checkered flag.
Alvaro Bautista’s fall allowed the Turk to narrow the gap to the Ducati rider from 79 points to 54. And now all three title contenders have at least one race each without points.
Toprak Razgatlioglu:
I was calm today. This year in the first races before I could never ride relaxed – I always felt stressed. Today was the first time I rode completely calm, just like last year. The connection with the bike is better and that’s why I rode much better. An unbelievable race because I was able to get 7 seconds behind Johnny. I saw this and therefore decided to try to make a stop at the finish. I’m incredibly happy.
