Since 2003, the BMW M Award has been awarded in the MotoGP World Road and Ring Motorcycle Racing Championship – an award for the pilot who won the most qualifying victories in the last championship. Based on the results of counting the number of pole positions, the athlete receives a new car as a gift from BMW, which is a partner of the racing series. In 2022, the German brand chose the first BMW M3 Touring station wagon in its history as a prize model.
BMW M3 Competition Touring is painted in frosted Black matte color and received a black leather finish, and in addition, the “premium” station wagon has a full set of options available for the model so that the MotoGP racer does not lack the comfort and capabilities of the car.
From a technical point of view, there are no changes — the car has an in-line 3.0-liter 6-cylinder gasoline turbo engine with a capacity of 510 horsepower, which works with an 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic function and M xDrive all-wheel drive with an active M differential on the rear axle. By default, the M Dynamic Mode drift mode is provided, which disables the tracking control.
A similar station wagon has been used since 2022 as the official MotoGP safety car, which makes the safety car the only instance of the BMW M3 Competition Touring that will officially visit the United States – the brand does not plan to sell this model in North America, but the car will arrive at the Grand Prix of the Americas.
