Audi continues preparations for the change of generations of one of the most popular model lines – the A4. Spies photographed the station wagon passing road tests in the Austrian Alps.
The body of the prototype is camouflaged in the pictures, but some details can be still considered. Looks like the next-generation models of the range will receive narrower headlights and a new front bumper with modified air intakes. And the radiator grille will not change fundamentally. Specifically A4 Avant, apparently, will be a little lower and wider than its predecessor.
It is expected that the new Audi A4 will be built on a revised version of the current MLB platform and keep a wide range of petrol and diesel engines. At the same time, the range of transmissions will be reduced to manual – only seven-speed robots and eight-speed automatic will remain, and the degree of electrification of powertrains will be increased in accordance with the current environmental agenda. In particular, the next RS 4 should become a hybrid, and in terms of power, it will allegedly leave far behind the current “RS” with its 450-horsepower “turbo six” 2.9.

Audi is also preparing an A4 e-Tron electric car, which, despite the familiar index, will actually be an independent model on a separate battery platform PPE. It will also have an RS version, similar to the RS e-Tron GT. According to preliminary data, the combined output of the two-engine all-wheel-drive system will be at least 480 hp and 800 Nm.
At that, the fuel-powered sedan and wagon will be the first to come out after all. They should be fully declassified by the end of this year, the start of sales is scheduled for 2023.
