Pol Espargaro, who passed the crucible of Repsol Honda, returns to the KTM factory environment: he signed a contract with KTM Factory Racing and Tech3; the Austrian factory intends to announce its MotoGP racing program for 2023 in the Red Bull Ring.
It has just become known that Pol Espargaro has already signed a new contract “with a team he knows very well.”
In an interview with Motorsport, Espargaro admitted: “I can’t say anything directly, but I have a clear future. I’ve already signed a two-year contract, and I’m going to the team that I want, that wants me. I am very lucky, I will have a good bike and a decent salary. This is where I planned to go after the news of Suzuki’s exit from MotoGP. This is a real family.”
Without saying a word directly, Pol pointed out three clear things:
1) he already has a 2-year contract with KTM;
2) in 2023-24, he will compete for Tech3 Racing, with which he began his career in MotoGP on the Yamaha line, and then moved together with Bradley Smith to the KTM factory team;
3) he will have a good salary, not at all like Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez.
Also, Pol admitted that the transition to Honda was a severe test for him: “It’s hard to explain… the first half of this season has been a living hell. You fight to win in Qatar, and then for 3 months you try not to get killed…”
Marc Marquez, whom HRC uses not only as a flagship racer but also as the main expert on the RC213V, confirmed that a “significant flaw” was found in the 2022 motorcycle, which is now being corrected by Honda Racing engineers. This flaw did not allow either Pol Espargaro, Take Nakagami, or Alex Marquez to open up.
