Danilo Petrucci rejected the invitation of Team Suzuki Ecstar to take the place of the injured Joan Miro at the Red Bull Ring, however, confirmed that he would attend the San Marino MotoGP Grand Prix. In what status and with whom?
Petrucci confirmed that Suzuki did call him and offered him a wildcard from the factory team, but he refused because his obligations to Ducati in MotoAmerica and high chances of taking the title outweigh all the buns of one-time participation in MotoGP.
“I will be in Misano, but not with Suzuki,” Danilo said. – It’s all true about the offer to go to the start, but the negotiations ended quickly. I talked to Ducati, we corresponded all night, and came to the conclusion that it is impossible to take risks – MotoAmerica is a priority. And I agree with them.”
“I won’t deny it, I’m a little sorry to miss the chance to get back to the start in MotoGP, but last year Joan Mir beat me on my birthday in Misano. It was very interesting for me to try the Suzuki GSX-RR on my favorite track and understand why it is so good, and why Joan beat me so easily. And it’s normal for a MotoGP rider to try to ride as many prototypes as possible in order to know their features. Returning to the paddock will be a pleasant experience for me. But not on the starting grid.”
Petrucci also admitted that he and Ducati are negotiating to join the World Superbike: “The situation is developing somehow, but there is no clear confirmation yet. It is clear that both Ducati and I have a certain interest. They would like to see me at the factory Panigale V4 in SBK, but whether it’s Aruba or some other team, it’s not clear yet.”
