British channel Carwow held another drag race and this time they used not modern models but sports cars of past years. For this race, authors managed to find an iconic sedan Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen, whose rival was no less legendary coupe Subaru Impreza P1, built by a British engineering company Prodrive. But the uniqueness of the cars did not affect the test program for them in any way.
Like all other cars which appeared in Carwow hands, there were 402 meters races, classic Drag Races, parallel starts from 48 and 80 km per hour, and the final test for the cars was traditionally evaluation of brakes efficiency at 161 km per hour.
The Subaru Impreza P1 is equipped with a 2-liter 280-horsepower turbocharged engine with 353 newton-meter of torque. The all-wheel-drive coupe weighing 1,283 kilograms with a 5-speed manual transmission turned out to be almost identical in performance to its counterpart.
Under the hood of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, Tommi Makinen is also a 2-liter petrol turbo-engine of similar 280 horsepower, but the torque is higher – 373 Newton-meters – weight is 1360 kg – but the gearbox is the same 5-speed manual. And such similarity of parameters only played into the hands of the duel.
