The current Land Rover Range Rover Sport is one of the newest additions to the sport utility vehicle segment. The British car comes with either a plug-in hybrid powertrain or a twin-turbocharged V8 from BMW. He has athletic aspirations, but isn’t he too heavy to be fast in turns? It was this question that interested the organizers of the moose test.

The hybrid version has a powerful electrified system with a maximum output of 434 hp and 839 Nm. This is enough to accelerate from a standstill to 96 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. But accelerating in a straight line is always easier than taking turns. Representatives of the portal km77.com checked how good the new Range Rover Sport is in the moose test.

“For evaluation, they used the Range Rover Sport P510e, which is a slightly more powerful version of the same PHEV model. He rode on 23-inch wheels with all-season Pirelli Scorpion 0 tires. The tested sample weighed exactly 3,030 kg without a driver with an almost perfect weight balance of 49.2 percent / 50.8 percent of the front-to-back distribution.”

Despite the fact that the suspension of the Range Rover Sport is redesigned compared to a regular Range Rover, the sport utility vehicle had no chance to pass the test on moose at a speed of 75 km/h. Even his electronic stabilization systems could not keep him on the move without hitting a single cone. The driver said the car feels more manageable than the Range Rover, which km77.com I also tested recently, but the RR Sport was too heavy.

 

After several attempts, the driver managed to overcome the moose test at a speed of 69 km / h, which is an acceptable result, especially compared to the 63 km / h that a regular Range Rover develops. The test clearly showed that the sportier model is much more maneuverable with less noticeable body roll and understeer. But the weight of the plug-in hybrid SUV did not allow for higher speeds.
