Pickups have long been not only utilitarian working “trucks”, and another proof of this is the GMC Canyon of the new generation, which debuted in the USA. General Motors decided to maximally dilute the co-platform Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon and made the latter even more prestigious. From now on, there is no diesel in the engine range, and the only available engine is the turbocharger 2.7, boosted to 314 horsepower. There are no “simple” versions, but you can choose one of the “rich” ones – the off-road AT4, the “luxury” Denali with an abundance of chrome, and the AT4X with reinforced suspension.
Externally, the new Canyon can be recognized by the two-level front optics and massive radiator grille, and the dimensions of the pickup have changed slightly with the change of generation. So, the wheelbase has increased by 7.9 centimeters compared to its predecessor, and the front overhang has become shorter. As in the case of Colorado, the model is available exclusively with a two-row cabin, the size of the cargo platform is also only one. Already in the basic configuration of the Elevation pickup, 18-inch wheels and an 8-inch digital instrument panel are placed, and the ground clearance is 245 millimeters.

GMC Canyon debuted in four versions. The mentioned Elevation configuration has a choice between rear and all-wheel drive, and all other options are all-wheel drive. The “average” configuration of the Canyon AT4 can be distinguished from others by bumpers of a different design: a rear self-locking differential and off-road tires are provided for such a pickup truck. The diagonal of the “device” in this case is 11 inches, a projection display and ventilation of the seats are also provided. In the “luxurious” Denali version, the pickup received an expanded chrome package, leather interior trim with natural wood inserts, and 20-inch wheels.

The next in the hierarchy is the top Canyon AT4X, which is distinguished by reinforced suspension, Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers, 33-inch tires, and 271-millimeter ground clearance. In this version, the pickup truck has forced locks of both inter-wheel differentials, bottom protection, and an additional “off-road” driving mode Baja.
At the start of sales, the model will be offered with an optional Edition 1 package, the main feature of which is cameras installed under the bottom, which broadcast a picture to an 11.3–inch screen in the cabin in real-time.
Production of the new GMC Canyon is organized at the GM plant in Missouri, serial assembly will begin next year. Pickups with a single 2.7-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 314 horsepower, which is combined with an eight-band automatic, will come off the assembly line. The start of sales is scheduled for the spring of 2023.
