The new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232) roadster already has top versions SL 55 xDrive and SL 63 xDrive with twin-turbo V8, and now there is a basic rear-drive version SL 43 with a four-cylinder engine in the lineup.
Outside it is possible to distinguish the novelty from older colleagues by a little different bumper, and also round exhaust pipes of exhaust system instead of dual rectangular. By default, the car is equipped with 19-inch wheels, but 20- or 21-inch ones are available at an extra charge.
As for technical features, the Mercedes-AMG SL 43 2022 became the first AMG model with a four-cylinder engine under the hood longitudinally rather than transversely.
In the movement of roadster drives a 2.0-liter engine M139, which is already familiar from a number of “junior” models AMG. However, here, the unit is slightly updated, with different supports and an electric drive compressor.
The supercharger of the motor has one, and between the turbine and compressor wheels on the shaft is placed an electric motor with a thickness of only 4 cm. The electric motor is powered by 48-volt mains. It is able to immediately start working (on the command of electronics) and spin up to 170,000 rpm.
By the way, the Germans borrowed the electric boost technology from Formula 1. It allows for minimizing turbo lag and also keeping pressure during short gas cuts.
The motor put in the roadster works with AMG Speedshift MCT 9G nine-speed automatic. It produces 381 hp at 6,750 rpm and 480 Nm available from 3,250 to 5,000 pm.
In the first seconds of acceleration, the 48-volt starter-generator with belt drive also takes part in the work, adding 14 more forces to the output. Due to this superstructure, Germans promise better fuel efficiency.
Branded all-wheel-drive xDrive transmission is not available in the base roadster, so it is noticeably lighter than the older versions. In the curb weight, the car weighs 1 735 kg (- 140). Acceleration from a place to a hundred is possible in 4.9 seconds, and the maximum speed can reach 275 km/h.
Additionally, the Mercedes-AMG SL 43 also has a simplified chassis. The base roadster has a suspension with AMG Ride Control passive dampers, but adaptive dampers and swivel wheel buildings are offered at extra cost.
Other options include the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which includes active engine mounts, 10 mm lowered sports suspension, yellow brake calipers, electronically controlled locking differential, and extreme ride preset Race.
The base Mercedes-AMG SL 43 will be on sale in the summer of the twenty-second. The price list has not been announced yet, but the four-cylinder modification will definitely be noticeably cheaper than the same AMG SL 55 xDrive, for which the Germans are asking for 158,000 euros.
