The Suzuki compact SUV has been coming off the assembly line since 1970. Since then, the car has managed to change four generations, but each time it was offered exclusively with two doors. But soon the Jimny model range will be expanded with the advent of a 5-door modification.
According to new information, the debut of the global version of Suzuki Jimny, which, according to rumors, should receive a prefix to the name “Long”, will take place in early 2023 at the AutoExpo auto show in India. The novelty will receive not only an elongated body but also a stretched wheelbase. From the point of view of both indicators, the “five-door” should add 300 mm to the “three-door”.
The increase in dimensions promises for the SUV a change in the volume of the luggage compartment and legroom for the rear row passengers.
The current Suzuki Jimny, sold exclusively in a 3-door version, is equipped with 1.5-liter gasoline “atmospheric engine” that produces 102 horsepower. His bundle is a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-band “automatic”.
Taking into account the fact that the weight of the elongated “Jimny” will increase, a more productive version with a turbo engine based on the same one-and-a-half-liter unit, supplemented with an electric surplus, can be stored for it.
The list of transmissions, apparently, will not change significantly, and, as before, will include a mechanical “five-speed”, but the outdated 4-speed classic torque converter will be replaced by a 6-band automatic transmission.
Jimny Long, like its 3-door relative, will be sold not only in Asia but also in Europe.
