British YouTube channel Carwow held a drag race between Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S, the new Audi RS 3, and BMW M240i xDrive. The best four-, five- and six-cylinder sedans and coupes were judged after quarter-mile starts, parallel races from 50 mph (80 km/h) to half-mile under different regimes, and a final brake test at 100 mph (161 km/h).
The new Audi RS 3 is lighter than its rivals – the sedan weighs just 1,575 kilograms. Under the hood is a 2.5-liter “turbocharger” with 400 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. There is an all-wheel-drive and a 7-speed pres elective “robot”, the price in the UK is ВЈ55,600.
The BMW M240i xDrive has a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine (374 horsepower, 500 Nm) and an eight-speed automatic. The Bavarian coupe is heavier (1,690 kilograms), but cheaper – from ВЈ45,800.
The Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S is the most powerful (421 hp, 500 Nm), heavy (1,695 kilograms), and expensive (ВЈ61,000). Under the hood is a 2.0 four-cylinder engine.
At a distance of a quarter of a mile “charged” models shared 0.3 seconds, the winner of the race from 50 miles per hour in sports mode determined only a photo finish, and the absolute leader in a series of races was not revealed. A year and a half ago, Carwow compared the Audi RS 3 and BMW M2 CS of previous generations with the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S using the same methodology.
