Breaking news: After Team Suzuki Ecstar confirmed the absence of Joan Miro at the San Marino Grand Prix, they needed a replacement pilot. But Sylvain Guintoli is also injured… And then, Livio Suppo called the States.
Suppo confirmed that he had invited Danilo Petrucci, a former Ducati factory team driver, to replace Joan Miro at the home race in Misano. But for now, this is only an invitation, and Danilo needs to solve a number of nuances with the current agreements with Ducati.
If Danilo manages to break out on MotoGP, he will become the second MotoAmerica pilot to enter the World Championships in September: Jake Gagne, Petrucci’s main rival in the American Superbike, will perform at least one stage of the World Superbike wildcard.
Danilo Petrucci announced his retirement as a MotoGP driver at the end of the 2021 season, which he spent with Tech3 KTM Factory Racing. The final season was not very successful, because Petrucci did not have enough time to master a fundamentally new prototype. For his efforts for the benefit of KTM, Pete Bayer presented Danilo with a performance at the Dakar Rally Marathon in the colors of Tech3, where Petrucci won the stage and finished in the TOP 3 twice more. But the Italian decided not to make a career in rally racing and accepted the invitation of Warhorse Ducati to MotoAmerica.
At the moment, Petrucci is on par with Jake Gagne (Yamaha) in MotoAmerica Superbike.
