XPeng introduced an ultra-fast charger for electric cars that allows 210 kilometers of extra mileage in five minutes. Its capacity is 480 kilowatts. The first of its kind will be installed in the parking lot of the Sunac Mall in Guangzhou. Then the terminals will appear in the country’s largest megacities and on major highways.
The S4 Charging Speaker was announced late last year at the Xpeng Technology Day. The terminal has 480 kilowatts of power, but whether that’s a lot depends on the context. And the context is this: Tesla “superchargers” give 150-250 kilowatts, and Ionity stations – 350. We should not forget about single terminals Terra 360 company ABB, Repsol (450 kW), GAC (500 kW), and very exotic charging Destin, which has 900 kilowatts, which is suitable for a single car – Piech GT.
Xpeng claims to get 200 kilometers of range in five minutes with the S4 speaker. A demonstration charging session with the G9 crossover in the lead role confirmed this, and the process itself looked as follows.
At first, the electric car was charged with 150 kilowatts, but within a minute the power went up to 400. The peak of 440 kilowatts was reached in three and a half minutes, and it took no more than five minutes to charge from a low SoC to 40 percent (the equivalent of 210 kilometers on the Chinese CLTC cycle).
The first S4 speaker will be installed in the parking lot of the Sunac Mall in Guangzhou, and it will be XPeng’s 1,000th charging station in China. By 2025, the number of such stations will reach 2,000. First, they will appear in the ten cities from which the largest number of orders for the G9 crossovers came. Then – in the country’s largest metropolitan areas and on major highways.
