A simplified version of a full-size SUV Beijing BJ90 entered the Chinese market. The creation of this car was the responsibility of the Chinese partner of Daimler – the car giant BAIC. Thus, the BJ90 is a licensed copy of the Mercedes-Benz GLS of the last generation.

Chinese SUV is almost fully unified with Mercedes-Benz GLS in terms of technology and architecture of the interior. But the appearance of the model Beijing tried to make as original as possible.

In the three years since its debut, the BJ90 has become more than 2.5 times more affordable from 1,288,000 to 488,000 yuan. This is due to the fact that the automaker decided to change the concept of the SUV. The design has not undergone any changes. Instead of the 422-horsepower four-liter V8 of the M 278 family, a 333-horsepower three-liter V6 engine is now offered.

Both engines are “Mercedes” and work in conjunction with the German 9ACP, 4Matic four-wheel drive system, and air suspension.

“Another change for the more budget-friendly version: a simplified design of the second row of seats. Such a model won’t make it out of the home market.”
