Chinese company BYD has completely stopped the production of cars with classic internal combustion engines. This is reported by the press service of the automaker.
The company said that BYD “has become the first automaker in the world, which gave up cars with traditional engines. At the same time, for example, the European brand Smart does not produce cars with classic internal combustion engines, starting in 2019.
At the same time, BYD stressed that the company will continue to produce components for its old gasoline-powered cars, as well as their warranty and post-warranty service.
BYD sold 104,300 electric cars and hybrids in China in March 2022, surpassing Tesla in sales in China. According to CarNewsChina, BYD could increase its sales from 1.2 million to 1.5-2.0 million vehicles in 2022 if it solves its component shortage.
