The Chinese company BYD sold more than 641 thousand electric vehicles in the first six months of this year. This figure is 315% more than the figures for the same period in 2021. This is reported by the Chinese media. Thus, the Chinese concern has become the world leader in sales of electric cars, ahead of the American company Tesla, which in six months was able to sell 564 thousand electric vehicles.
BYD itself announced that since March the company has stopped producing cars with gasoline engines. The concern’s message emphasizes that in the future their automotive business will focus on electric vehicles operating exclusively on electricity, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. At the same time, BYD will continue to provide customers who already own gasoline-powered cars with improved service and after-sales warranty, as well as supply spare parts throughout the life cycle.
At the moment, BYD, in addition to China, sells its cars in Norway and some South American countries. The concern’s enterprises produce both cars and their components (for example, batteries and microchips). Thus, BYD does not depend on third-party vendors.
Moreover, the Chinese are planning to supply components to other automakers in the near future. For example, BYD is going to send batteries for electric cars to Tesla.
