The British round of WorldSBK got off to a dramatic start for the title fight as Alvaro Bautista battled steadily for the podium in race one, but a mistake at turn 12 of lap 16 saw the Panigale V4 R rider wallowing in gravel. The Ducati rider failed to score points for the first time in the 2022 season, and his lead in the championship shrank dramatically.
The last corner was always a bit tricky. It’s a very bumpy and tricky corner. You can’t use the same trajectory all the time because the trajectory depends on what bumps you hit. All in all, it’s a tricky corner.
This time I braked really hard and maybe leaned a little harder than usual, then hit a bump and lost control of the front. Fell off.
I think we have to keep a positive attitude. We were very competitive in a race on a track that we have a lot of trouble on. I’m happy from that point of view, and I’m confident about tomorrow.
Bautista’s advantage in the championship is down to 16 points over Rea and 54 points over Razgatlioglu. In all the previous races of the season, Alvaro has been on the podium.
